Best Electric Trikes for Seniors 2026 | Tested by Riders 60+

The best electric trike for seniors has a low, easy-to-mount frame, a stable three-wheel base, pedal assist with a throttle, and dependable brakes. Below, two of our riders share their stories, followed by our top 7 picks for 2026, a side-by-side comparison and what to look for.

Hi, my name is Vicki. I'm 80 years old. For many years, I have enjoyed spending my summer days in Vermont riding an e-bike. However, during this past winter, I have had a health issue, which I believe would make staying on a two-wheel e-bike probably not the safest thing for me. So I began investigating pretty much every company online and looking at my options for purchasing an e-trike. After weeks and weeks of research, I ended up with this wonderful company called Sixthreezero and felt that what they offered was far superior to anything else that I looked at. One of the criteria that was important to me was a bike that had an assist. Also, I wanted a trike that had a throttle as well as gears for the derailleur, and also a trike that had a parking brake and went in reverse.

The Relaxed Body bike at Sixthreezero met all of my criteria, and even more important than all of those features, to me, is the color of the trike, and I loved the color of the Relaxed Body bike. I'm on the trike, and I just want to point out that I've got the front bag, and I've got the big, beautiful bag that's all color coordinated, and I added a couple of mirrors, fun, and then a little bell, which I think is fun. That I can touch just with my five feet tall. We live two miles from Lake Champlain. It's a beautiful beach down the road, and this is going to become my beach buggy, and I'll be going there daily. For camping trips, you can browse our electric trike for RV camping. So that's pretty much it. You can see I'm color coordinated, which is why I love the color. It's a wonderful trike, and thank you so much for making it. If you're looking for more options, you can browse our electric tricycles.

Hi, I'm Diane from Austin, Texas. I'm here today to review my Sixthreezero Simple Glide Recumbent trike. I love this bike. I bought this bike, actually, my sweet husband bought this bike because he likes to walk around our neighborhood. We live in a kind of semi-rural neighborhood. HOA area with a lot of open space, and I have some physical challenges, so I can't walk around as much as I'd like. So he came up with the idea to try this e-bike or e-trike, in this case. We chose this model because it's really good at supporting my weight limit, and even well beyond it. If you're looking for other bikes that prioritize comfort and stability, you can browse our bikes for seniors to compare similar models.

It's also really easy for me to use and get in and out of because I also have some physical challenges. It's easy to get on and off. These nice adjustable armrests here. They're really comfy and make it easy, like if I just want to slide around. I think the best thing about this bike has been just being able to spend some extra time with my husband, whereas normally I would be limited to being able to get out as much. All right, he's going to show you the fast. All right, thank you, Sixthreezero, for providing a wonderful bike. Truly a top-rated tricycle for adults.

Best Electric Trikes for Seniors: Quick Picks

Simple Glide Fat Tire 750W Recumbent: easiest to get on and off. 750W motor, up to 350 lbs.

  • Great if: getting on and off is your biggest worry, or you want back and arm support while you ride.
  • Not ideal if: you’re taller than 6'4" (see the Low Seat below), or you have a weak grip and want hydraulic brakes, which need less hand pressure.

Relaxed Body 750W: lowest step-over at 13 inches. 750W motor, up to 350 lbs.

  • Great if: you prefer sitting upright, or you’re on the shorter side. Its 4'10" to 6'5" fit is one of the widest on this list.
  • Not ideal if: you want a reclined seat with armrests (see the Simple Glide Fat Tire above), or you need to fold it for car travel (see the Easy Transit below).

Easy Transit 750W Folding: best for storage and car travel. 750W motor, up to 350 lbs.

  • Great if: you’re short on garage space or want to take your trike on trips.
  • Not ideal if: you’ll be lifting it alone. At 80 lbs, it’s heavy to load into a car, so plan for a second person or a ramp. Its 10.4Ah battery is also smaller than most on this list, so full-electric range is shorter (18–40 miles).

Fat Tire 750W Reverse: steadier in turns. 750W motor, up to 350 lbs.

  • Great if: you feel unsteady when turning, or you have arthritis or a weak grip. Hydraulic brakes need less hand pressure to stop.
  • Not ideal if: you have a narrow gate, doorway or storage spot. Measure first, since two front wheels make the front end wider.

Simple Glide 500W Recumbent: best for flat neighborhoods. 500W motor, up to 350 lbs.

  • Great if: your rides are on flat neighborhood streets and paths, and you want a compact trike that’s easy to store indoors.
  • Not ideal if: you live somewhere hilly. Step up to a 750W model for extra power on climbs.

Simple Glide Low Seat 750W Recumbent: best for tall riders (6'0" to 6'8"). 750W motor, up to 400 lbs.

  • Great if: you’re tall or need a higher weight capacity, and you want a reclined seat.
  • Not ideal if: you’re under 6'0" (the Simple Glide Fat Tire will fit you better), or you need a light trike. It weighs 98 lbs.

EVRYjourney Rickshaw 750W with Passenger Seat: best for riding with a partner. 750W motor, up to 500 lbs total.

  • Great if: your partner can’t ride on their own, or you want to bring the grandkids. It has the biggest battery on this list (48V 21Ah).
  • Not ideal if: you don’t have garage or ground-floor storage. At 158 lbs, it’s the heaviest trike here.

We design and sell every trike on this list, so we’ve shared who each one isn’t right for.

What to Look For in an Electric Trike for Seniors

After years of helping folks find the right ride later in life, I’ve learned a few things matter far more than top speed or a flashy spec sheet. Here’s what I’d tell my own parents to weigh.

Stability first. A trike’s third wheel is the whole point — it stands up on its own, so there’s no balancing at a stop and nothing to catch when you slow down. If you want even more surefootedness, a few of our electric trikes for seniors go further still: the ANYterrain 4-Wheel Recumbent carries up to 400 pounds across four wheels for a planted, tip-resistant feel.

Getting on and off. This is the quiet dealbreaker for a lot of riders. A low step-through frame or a recumbent seat you settle into — like on our Simple Glide Recumbent trikes — means you’re not swinging a leg over a high bar. Diane says it best above: the adjustable armrests and easy on-and-off were what sold her.

Weight capacity and fit. Our senior trikes carry from 350 up to 500 pounds depending on the model, and most fit riders roughly 58 to 78 inches tall — so there’s genuine room for different builds. Taller or heavier riders should look to the higher-capacity options like the EVRYjourney trikes, which hold up to 500 pounds.

Motor power. You’ll see 500-watt, 750-watt, and 1000-watt options. 500 watts is plenty for flat neighborhood paths; 750 watts is the sweet spot most riders settle on; and the 1000-watt mid-drive has the extra muscle for hills or carrying a passenger.

And try before you commit. Every trike comes with a 30-day test ride and a warranty — which matters more at this stage than any number on a page. A trike has to fit your body and your route, and the only way to know is to ride it.

Storage and Weight

E-trikes weigh more than bikes. The Easy Transit weighs 80 lbs and folds to fit a hatchback or SUV. The EVRYjourney Rickshaw weighs 158 lbs, so plan for garage or ground-floor storage.

Standard, Reverse or Four Wheels

A standard trike has one wheel in front. A reverse trike has two in front, which feels steadier when turning. If balance is a serious concern, the four-wheel ANYterrain Recumbent carries up to 400 lbs and is the most stable option.

Brakes

Hydraulic disc brakes need less hand pressure to stop than mechanical ones. That helps if you have arthritis or a weak grip.

Budget

Price depends mostly on motor power, battery size and features like folding frames or a passenger seat. A 500W trike like the Simple Glide 500W Recumbent usually costs less than the 750W models. Trikes with hydraulic brakes, bigger batteries or a passenger bench sit at the higher end. Check current prices on each product page, and see our financing options if you’d like to spread the cost over monthly payments.

Prefer Pedaling Only?

A non-electric adult tricycle is lighter, simpler and has no battery to charge.

Which Trike Is Right for You?

To keep it simple, here’s how I’d match our most popular senior trikes to what you actually need:

  • Most stability: the ANYterrain 4-Wheel Recumbent — four wheels, up to 400 pounds, about as planted as it gets.
  • Easiest to get into: the Simple Glide Recumbent (500W or 750W) — you sit low and lean back, with armrests and an easy step-in.
  • Carrying a grandchild or a partner: the EVRYjourney electric rickshaw — built for a passenger, up to 500 pounds.
  • Hills or a heavier rider: step up to a 750-watt or 1000-watt model with higher weight capacity.
  • Tight on storage: the Easy Transit folding electric trike folds down for a garage or a car trunk.

Whichever way you lean, you can see the whole electric tricycle lineup and compare them side by side before you decide.

Our 7 Picks in Detail

1. Simple Glide Fat Tire 750W Recumbent

You sit back into a high-back seat with armrests instead of climbing over a frame. It has a 750W motor, up to 50 miles per charge, and fits riders 5'0"–6'4" up to 350 lbs. Fat 4-inch tires smooth out bumps, and the frame folds.

2. Relaxed Body 750W

With a 13-inch step-over, you barely lift your foot to get on. Its upright seating eases strain on your back, hips and knees. It fits riders from 4'10" to 6'5" up to 350 lbs and reaches 16 mph. This is the trike Vicki chose.

3. Easy Transit 750W Folding

The handlebars, pedals and frame all fold, so it fits in a car or closet. It weighs 80 lbs, has a 13.5-inch step-over, and covers 18–40 miles fully electric or 20–60 miles with pedal assist.

4. Fat Tire 750W Reverse

Two front wheels give a wider, steadier base when steering. It has hydraulic disc brakes, a seat with a backrest and a foldable frame. Rider limit: 350 lbs.

5. Simple Glide 500W Recumbent

For mostly flat streets, 500 watts is plenty. You get the same easy recumbent seat in a compact size that fits through doorways. It fits riders 5'0"–6'4" up to 350 lbs.

6. Simple Glide Low Seat 750W Recumbent

Built for riders 6'0" to 6'8", with the highest rider limit here at 400 lbs. It has hydraulic brakes, 7 speeds and up to 50 miles of range.

7. EVRYjourney Rickshaw 750W with Passenger Seat

Take your spouse or grandkids along. The rear bench holds up to 300 lbs, with 500 lbs total capacity and up to 50 miles of range. It fits riders 4'11"–6'4".

FAQs

What is the best electric trike for seniors?

For most seniors, a 750W trike with a low step-over or recumbent seat. The Simple Glide Fat Tire Recumbent is easiest to get on and off.

What is the best electric trike for seniors with balance problems?

A recumbent trike keeps you low and supported, and a reverse trike feels steadier in turns. For maximum stability, consider a four-wheel e-bike.

Can you ride an electric trike at 70 or 80?

Yes. Many of our riders are in their 70s and 80s. Vicki is 80. Choose a low step-over frame or recumbent seat so getting on stays easy.

What weight capacity should I look for?

Choose a trike rated for your weight plus anything you’ll carry, like bags or groceries. Most of our senior trikes carry up to 350 lbs, the Simple Glide Low Seat carries up to 400 lbs, and the EVRYjourney Rickshaw carries up to 500 lbs total with a passenger.

How far can a senior ride on one charge?

Several models here reach up to 50 miles per charge. Hills, wind and heavier loads reduce range.

How fast does an electric trike go?

It depends on the model. The Relaxed Body reaches 16 mph, and most of our trikes list a recommended riding speed of up to 16–20 mph. You can always ride slower by using a lower assist level.

Do I need a license to ride an electric trike?

Rules vary by state and motor size. Check your state’s e-bike laws before riding on roads.

Does Medicare pay for an electric trike?

Usually not. A regular tricycle isn’t covered by Medicare unless it’s needed for specific health issues and classified as durable medical equipment (DME). Talk to your doctor first, and check with Medicare or your Advantage plan about any special coverage. Learn more in our guide: Will Medicare pay for your tricycle?

How much assembly is required?

Not much. Our e-trikes arrive 80%–90% assembled, and our step-by-step assembly instructions cover the rest.

Can I return the trike if it isn’t right for me?

Yes. When you buy directly from us, you get a 30-day test ride starting the day your trike arrives, and we pay return shipping on e-trikes. See our 30-day test ride page for full details.
